Annual Holiday in Tawau, Kampongku
Lunch in Tawau-is always as I remember when we get here, will be fish head soup with grilled fish. Fish soup of Tawau is different from that in the West Malaysia. No spices. Tried to google about the one we ate but info is not available. It doesnt warrant any particular attention, I think. The fish they use is called Ikan ikan putih here. The taste? Well..maybe it should be like that but I would have improved on it, given the chance. Haha. However, I like the grilled fish, grilled the bugis way. Dont forget to eat with thinly cuts of unripe mango or sour mango. A real treat of a bugis meal. All below rm25.
Kalau balik Tawau, mesti masuk ke Wallace Bay, sekarang Kg. Harapan untuk ziarah adik ibuku.
Setelah hampir 2 jam menaiki bot, sampailah di kg Wallace Bay. Hari ini, penumpang tidak ramai. Dan inilah satu2nya bot yang berulang-alik sekali sehari ke Tawau dari Wallace Bay.
Dapatlah saya berjumpa dengan bapa saudara saya dan isterinya serta seorang lagi mak saudara. Kami ni orang Bugis yang asalnya dari Kalimantan dan Sulawesi dan telah berhijrah ke Tawau sebelum Malaysia terbentuk. Dihidangkan dengan minuman petang berupa kopi kampung dan brongko, sejenis kueh bugis yang sedap, lemak manis dan bertekstur lembut diperbuat daripada pisang, telur dan santan. Dan kerepek pisang yang sedap rangupnya. Memang mak saudara saya ni mahir dalam membuat kuih2 ni.
Lepas subuh pagi tadi (jam 6, kami naik pickup ke jeti dan bot bertolak dalam jam 6.30 ke Tawau. Tambang bot (orang sini panggil motor) ialah rm 7. Sampai di jeti Tawau jam 8.20 pagi. Kami balik ke rumah dulu sebelum ke Maya Corner untuk sarapan
Makan mee tahu memang wajib kalau balik ke Tawau. Bukan makanan biasa masa kecil. Baru kenal di awal kurun ke 21. Kata seorang blogger, makanan ni makanan baget. Di antara banyak2 kedai makan mee tauhu ni, ada 3 tempat (kalau suami, 4) yang saya suka. Fauzan, Maya Corner dan satu lagi tapi nama dah lupa (esok, baru nak pergi). Dah cuba perkenalkan di laman melati tapi tak jalan. Mee tahu ni ialah mee goreng kosong dimakan bersama sup yang mengandungi tauhu/pok, sayur berinti ikan dll (sy letak fishball). Sedikit sambal lada juga disertakan.
Hari minggu sebelum terbang ke KL, kami ke Takada sunday market. Pasar tamu Takada. Hmm..baru saya tahu wujud..walhal sudah lama diadakan di Tawau. Yang menariknya harga barang yang dijual adalah murah berbanding di tempat lain. Macam-macam dijual dan diatur mengikut jenis. Ada haiwan peliharaan seperti angry birds, arnab comel, ikan dll. Ikan kering jauh lebih murah berbanding di pasar besar tu. Makanan laut segar memang segar. Nasi kuning, burasak, tumbuk dan beberapa makanan bugis yang lain ada dijual. Ini juga menunjukkan peniaga ramai orang bugis. Yang lain sama saja dengan pasar tani lain di Malaysia. Ini info untuk pelancong yang hendak ke Tawau, pastikan hari Ahad anda ke sini.

Because of bad weather, the flight detoured to Bayan Lepas for refuelling. We perhaps circled up there for more than 15 minutes before the pilot announced the reroute. We landed at PIA at 6.10 pm.
